Spring has sprung, and at Food Trade News/Food World we’re already in a packed season of coverage. Pennsylvania and New York loom large right now – as usual.Â
In Pennsylvania’s multibillion-dollar grocery market, PFMA’s Alex Baloga reports that the industry is watching Harrisburg, where the state budget and a renewed push around swipe fee reform are setting the policy backdrop. As you’ll see, there are real implications for margins in a volume-driven business. Also in PA, Wawa’s Christopher Edwards steps onto the PFMA board, adding operational perspective at a consequential moment for the trade. And outside Philly, the SJU Institute of Food Marketing feted a group of future industry leaders. Our Kevin Gallagher was on hand to take some great photos of the event.
Up in the Empire State, Zachary Zawila reports that Queens-based Western Beef is moving to a 100% employee-owned model, a notable succession path in a region where independent operators can have an outsized impact. Elsewhere in Metro New York, Krasdale Foods opened up for us to take a deep dive into their 118-year-old business.Â

Now, in 2026, the company is expanding through innovation. Here’s where the story goes next…
