Ahold USA Changes: Kelley Named S&S New England President, McGowan To Head Supply Chain

Ahold USA earlier this month announced changes to its executive leadership. Mark McGowan has been promoted to the role of executive vice president of supply chain at Ahold USA, effective May 21, and Joe Kelley has been appointed as president of the Stop & Shop New England division, also effective May 21.

With more than 21 years of experience with Stop & Shop, McGowan will focus on leading a supply chain organization that supports all of Ahold USA and its four divisions. He will continue to establish the supply chain function as a source of competitive  excellence, which will help drive brand, format, and merchandising strategies in support of the four divisions. McGowan joined Stop & Shop in 1991 as a management trainee and his positions have included senior vice president and general manager of the New York Metro division, senior vice president of sales at Stop & Shop, and senior vice president of Stop & Shop New England. McGowan became president of the Stop & Shop New England division in November 2009.

As president of the Stop & Shop New England Division, Kelley will run all aspects of the division, including sales, operating profits, organization and people. He will also help preserve the local Stop & Shop brand while ensuring that results are achieved by the Stop & Shop New England Division, consistent with Ahold USA’s overall strategy. Stop & Shop New England currently operates 218 supermarkets in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and parts of Connecticut, and employs more than 35,000 associates.

Kelley, who grew up in Massachusetts and knows theNew England market well, has more than 25 years of retail experience. Most recently, he was the chairman, president and chief executive officer of Marsh Supermarkets. Prior to working at Marsh, Kelley was the executive vice president for Price Chopper. He joined Price Chopper in 2005 as the vice president of sales, merchandising and marketing, and was promoted four times there over five years. Kelley has also held leadership roles at Bozzuto’s, Adams Hometown Markets inConnecticut, A&P and Purity Supreme.
