Kroger last month named Kate Mora to lead its Richmond, VA-based Mid-Atlantic division. Mora previously served as VP-merchandising for the large chain’s Michigan division.

In her new role she will oversee a division which operates more than 100 stores and employs about 18,000 associates in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio.

“We are excited Kate will be serving as president for our Mid-Atlantic division,” said Valerie Jabbar, senior VP-retail divisions. “With more than 25 years of retail management and leadership experience, she is a proven leader and strategic thinker, with a history of operational excellence.”

Mora joined Kroger in 2022 as vice president on special assignment supporting end-to-end fresh. Before coming to Kroger, she served as regional general manager and vice president for Walmart, providing strategic, people and operational leadership across a multi-state region. Mora also held a variety of leadership roles at Walmart with a focus on developing talent and delivering an excellent customer experience in an omnichannel environment.

Mora holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. She is the executive sponsor for the Michigan Division EDGE associate resource group and is a board member for Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit Michigan.

Mora succeeds Lori Raya who announced her retirement from Kroger. Raya had served as the retailer’s Mid-Atlantic president since 2021. Prior to that she spent 31 years with Safeway/Albertsons.
