Allegiance Retail Services used its 2026 Annual Meeting to spotlight both leadership changes and a broader push toward the future of independent grocery retail, including the debut of its new Pathmark Daily small-format banner and increased focus on AI-driven commerce.
The Iselin, New Jersey-based cooperative announced that Jason Ferreira has been elected chairman and CEO for the 2026–2027 fiscal year following board elections held during the May 20 meeting. Ferreira had been holding the positions on an interim basis since mid-May.
A major focus of the gathering was the rollout of Pathmark Daily, a smaller-format concept designed to help independent operators compete more aggressively against larger value-oriented chains and big-box retailers. The first location opened May 1 in East Meadow, New York, bringing back the longtime Pathmark “Wall of Values” merchandising concept alongside the cooperative’s Best Yet private label program.
Allegiance said the format is intended to emphasize value, convenience and sharper price positioning as consumers remain highly budget-conscious across many grocery categories.
The cooperative also devoted significant attention to emerging AI-powered shopping trends, including what it described as “Agentive Commerce” — a developing model in which AI assistants increasingly influence or manage consumer purchasing decisions online. Allegiance executives said the organization is investing in e-commerce capabilities designed to help members adapt to those shifts as digital grocery shopping continues evolving.
In addition to Ferreira, Allegiance announced the following board appointments for the 2026–2027 term: Esmail Mobarak, treasurer; Angelo Avena; John Estevez; Noah Katz; Michael Mignosi; Joseph Parisi; Fouad Elayyan; and Joseph Fantozzi, manager by appointment.
