Allegiance Retail Services said Thursday that co-op member and Vice Chairman Jason Ferreira has been named Acting Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.
Ferreira has served on the company’s Board of Directors since 2021 and has been an Allegiance co-op member since 2013. The appointment is part of the organization’s succession development plan and will remain in place until board leadership appointments are finalized during the company’s annual member meeting scheduled for May 20.
Ferreira has played a significant role in advancing technology initiatives, community safety efforts and philanthropic programs during his time in the independent grocery industry. He currently serves on the board of the National Supermarket Association and received the group’s Exceptional Independents Award in 2025.
Outgoing Chairman Lou Scaduto voluntarily stepped down to support what the company described as a smooth leadership transition.
Based in Iselin, N.J., Allegiance Retail Services provides merchandising, marketing, advertising and technology support to a network of independent supermarket banners including Foodtown, Freshtown, D’Agostino, Gristedes, Pathmark, LaBella Marketplace and Brooklyn Harvest.
