FMI – The Food Industry Association has appointed David Haaf as vice president of Fresh Foods, bringing a veteran grocery and foodservice executive back into a leadership role focused on fresh department strategy.

Haaf joins FMI after serving as president and CEO of the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association, where he led the organization’s retailer, supplier and industry engagement efforts. Prior to that, he spent more than 15 years with K-VA-T Food Stores, advancing from corporate executive chef to vice president of foodservice and prepared foods.

“David brings an exceptional blend of operational expertise, industry leadership and deep relationships across the fresh foods community,” said FMI Senior Vice President and Chief Collaboration Officer Mark Baum in announcing the appointment.

Haaf has also served on Topco’s steering committee, participated in FMI’s regional operators share group and contributed to the FMI Fresh Food Leadership Council.

In his new role, Haaf will help guide FMI’s fresh foods initiatives at a time when produce, meat, deli, bakery and prepared foods continue to serve as key points of differentiation for food retailers.

The bottom line is this: As retailers increasingly compete on fresh offerings, meal solutions and perimeter departments, Haaf’s operational and association experience positions FMI to play a larger role in shaping fresh-food strategy across the industry.
