Giant Food has promoted longtime executive Gregg Dorazio to vice president of marketing, placing a key architect of the retailer’s digital growth strategy in charge of its brand and customer marketing efforts.

Dorazio, who joined Giant Food’s leadership team in 2019, most recently served as the company’s strategy and eCommerce lead. In that role, he helped develop the retailer’s strategic growth plans while overseeing its online pickup and delivery business and other priority initiatives.

As vice president of marketing, Dorazio will lead efforts to strengthen the Giant Food brand, deepen customer engagement across digital and in-store channels, and align marketing strategies with merchandising and operations as the retailer continues executing its growth strategy.

“Gregg’s unique combination of strategic thinking, marketing expertise and deep understanding of our customers makes him exceptionally well-positioned to lead Giant Food’s marketing organization,” President Ira Kress said. “His leadership has already contributed significantly to our growth and digital transformation efforts.”

Before joining Giant Food, Dorazio spent 14 years in marketing leadership roles with Ahold Delhaize and General Mills, where he led initiatives spanning brand strategy, advertising, multicultural marketing, shopper marketing, sponsorships and customer development.

“I’m honored to step into this role and continue serving a brand that has such a strong connection to the communities we serve,” Dorazio said. “I look forward to building on Giant Food’s momentum and continuing to deliver meaningful experiences for shoppers.”

Dorazio holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA from Indiana University. He also serves on the board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County and is executive sponsor of Giant Food’s Corporate Council.

He succeeds Dyani Hanrahan, who will leave Giant Food at the end of July after nearly a decade with the company. Hanrahan joined the retailer in 2017 and helped modernize its marketing organization, expand the company’s brand presence and support its digital transformation.

Why it matters: The appointment comes as grocery retailers increasingly integrate marketing, digital commerce and merchandising to build customer loyalty. Dorazio’s background in eCommerce and strategic planning signals Giant Food’s continued emphasis on omnichannel growth and personalized customer engagement as competition for grocery shoppers intensifies.
