The Top 10 Grocery & CPG Stocks: Every Ticker in Our Basket Gained This Week as Markets Rallied

The FTN/FW Top 10 Grocery & CPG Stocks are curated using a combination of market relevance, segment representation, trading activity, and weekly performance trends. We track them with Google Gemini. We’re less interested in leaderboard bragging rights than in where capital is flowing – and what that says about how investors are reading the grocery business in real time.

The stock market closed out the final trading week of July by decisively throwing off the previous week’s tech-driven malaise. That move came courtesy of a dramatic post-earnings surge in mega-cap technology and retail.

The S&P 500 Index (INDEXSP:.INX) executed a sharp U-turn from its recent lows, rallying to finish the five-session stretch at 7,533.00 – a healthy gain that closes the book on earlier midsummer consolidation. Strong fundamental performance and solid consumer resilience data ultimately overpowered lingering geopolitical anxieties.

The net result: an asset rotation right back into key retail and tech giants. Our hand-picked grocery and CPG basket benefitted from the aggressive shift back into premium growth, value, and structural winners.

We’ll look more closely in a moment, but every single component of our basket ended last week firmly in the green, with gains ranging from a modest 1.53% to an incredible 16.83%.

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) led the pack. The shares completely reversed their previous week’s slump, exploding upward to $271.58 on the back of blockbuster Cloud and – importantly for us – retail growth numbers. Traditional heavyweights also showcased impressive structural power; Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT) solidified its defensive-anchor status by recovering strongly to $111.20, while wholesale king Costco Wholesale Corp. (NASDAQ:COST) continued its relentless march into premium territory, jumping to $951.89.

Meanwhile, high-flying momentum plays found fresh legs after their own brief consolidation phase.

Sprouts Farmers Market Inc. (NASDAQ:SFM) resumed its upward swing. In fact, it was the single best performer of the stocks we’re tracking, posting an incredible 16.82% gain. Powerful institutional buyers stepped back in, pushing the specialty grocer to $87.16. Value operators did very well, too, with Dollar General Corp. (NYSE:DG) climbing to $127.05 as low-and-middle-income consumer traffic trends remained highly robust. Target Corp. (NYSE:TGT) also clawed back its recent losses to settle comfortably at $144.49. In the regional space, Albertsons Companies Inc. (NYSE:ACI) arrested its post-earnings slide to stabilize at $11.58, while Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR) ticked upward to $57.74 as the market normalized grocery margin expectations.
