Amazon will begin offering grocery discounts to all of its U.S. employees Oct. 1, including workers at fulfillment centers, Whole Foods Market stores and corporate offices.
The new Employee Grocery Discount provides 10 percent off eligible groceries and everyday essentials purchased on Amazon.com and through Whole Foods Market online. Employees will receive a 20 percent discount on eligible purchases made in Whole Foods Market and Daily Shop stores.
Amazon said the discount will have no minimum purchase requirement or savings cap and will be available beginning on an employee’s first day. Eligible products include fresh produce, dairy, pantry staples, diapers, baby formula, cleaning supplies, pet food and toiletries.
The discount will apply to purchases made through employees’ Amazon accounts and can be combined with other promotions, including Prime savings, coupons, Lightning Deals and Subscribe & Save.
The new benefit comes as Amazon continues to expand its grocery business across both online and physical retail. Whole Foods operates more than 550 stores, with more than 100 additional locations in development, according to Amazon.
Amazon also has expanded grocery delivery through its e-commerce operation. The company said fresh and perishable groceries are now available through Same-Day Delivery in more than 2,300 U.S. cities and towns. Since perishables were added to the service in early 2025, Amazon said sales of those products have increased more than 40-fold.
The grocery discount is part of a broader compensation and benefits expansion announced by Amazon Wednesday. The company said it is investing more than $1.5 billion to increase pay for eligible U.S. core operations employees by $1 an hour, bringing the minimum starting wage for full-time core operations positions to $20 an hour.
Amazon said average hourly pay for those employees will reach nearly $24, while average total compensation, including benefits, will exceed $32 an hour.
The company is also introducing a banking benefit through First Tech Federal Credit Union that will become available to employees beginning in late 2026 and is expected to expand broadly in 2027.
The grocery benefit comes shortly after Amazon announced a separate investment of more than $230 million in higher pay and expanded benefits for more than 100,000 Whole Foods Market employees. That program includes higher wages, expanded health and family benefits and access to Amazon’s Career Choice education program.
Whole Foods hourly employees are scheduled to receive pay increases Sept. 28, with average store wages rising to more than $21 an hour, according to Amazon.
