With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I have a gift suggestion for the special woman in your life who already has everything and is impossible to buy for. A press release with this headline crossed my desk this week: “This Mother’s Day, Give Mom the Only Little Blue Box She Needs with Kraft Mac & Cheese’s 14k Gold Macaroni Necklace.”

Kraft is teaming up with luxury jeweler Ring Concierge to create a “…statement piece (that) pays homage to the classic dried pasta and yarn necklace gifted to moms each year.”

Actually, I think it sounds like a cute idea. The press release came with an image of the necklace, features a single 14k gold noodle strung on a delicate 16-inch gold chain – designed as an homage to the classic children’s craft.

“For nearly a century, Kraft Mac & Cheese has given moms fun, delicious and trusted ways to care for their families at mealtime,” said Alyssa Galiardo, associate brand communications manager at Kraft Mac & Cheese. “This Mother’s Day, we’re offering families the ultimate way to say thank you, with an elevated twist on a timeless tradition. Families can feel good knowing every time mom wears her necklace, she’ll remember special moments shared together – especially those that took place over a bowl of Kraft Mac & Cheese.”

Starting May 1, you can order your gift exclusively at http://ringconcierge.com/kraft-mac-and-cheese. And beyond a necklace for mom to wear, each gift comes with a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese for the whole family to share.

I think that’s pretty clever marketing.

Congrats to Giant Food’s Cynthia Volk, who was a Dancing Star at this year’s Alzheimer’s Association’s Dancing With the Stars Memory Ball held in Baltimore. Cynthia met her fundraising goal and was the top dancer in terms of donations. She and her supporters helped raise $262,571 to continue the fight against this debilitating disease. In other great news, the evening raised nearly $1.2 million! That’s a big number, especially considering the uncertain economic times we’re going through. Thanks to the food industry companies that were sponsors of the event, including Giant Food, H&S Family of Bakeries, JOH, Taylor Farms, Perdue Agribusiness and Boar’s Head. A huge shout-out to gala co-chair Heather Kress, who also has a Giant Food connection since she’s division president Ira Kress’ better half. You can see a few photos from the event on page 11 of this issue. However, if you want to see JR Paterakis’ outfit from this year, it’s on page 1 in full color. As usual, the H&S Bakery exec’s outfit was eye-catching, to say the least!

I had the pleasure over the past couple of months of working with the team at Kreider Farms as we put together the 90th anniversary pull-out special section running in this month’s issues of Food World and Food Trade News. The company is still family-owned and operated, and our section features interviews with the third and fourth generation family members who are currently running the show. And, it seems like the fifth generation might not be too far off from joining the business, too. I hope you’ll take some time to delve into the information included in the pages of this special section. Congratulations on 90 years of success and growth, Kreider Farms!

I’m going to be brief this month, folks, because I’ve got to start getting ready to compile the Food World and Food News 2025 Market Studies! Wait, it’s time to start working on June issues?, you ask. Yes, it is. By the time we’ve produced these annual reports, the year will be nearly half over! Where does the time go?……..
